Teaching My Little BookWorm hosts a weekly open-ended art idea each week. And I thought that this would be a good way to make sure we have "art" into our homeschooling days.
This weeks topic was "mixed mediums". I have seen crayon resist painting recently and I though that this would be perfect for "open ended" art.
I got the supplies out and some of the kids settled and showed them what could be done with simply crayons and watercolor paint.
I made a surprise for Kim since she learned to write her name this week. The kids were very excited with the effect the crayon and water made.
Then they went at it!
Kimberly, 3, seemed surprised every time something "appeared" on her paper through the paint.
She was very proud.
Mark had the fun idea to make secret messages. That idea caught on, and many secret messages were written.
I now have A LOT of crayon/watercolor pictures.
Laura's paper.
Luke joined us a little late, but really got into it once he began. (He is our least "crafty, artsy" kid)
A few of our finished masterpieces.
Amy was napping, and missed out on art time. But she made up for it when she got up. This also put her on clean up duty!
It was definitely worth it, thinking outside the box today, with open ended art-one thing is for sure, the kids had fun, they were creative, and I am sure the next time the watercolors come out, the crayons will come out also.

This was a great idea, and all the artwork turned out so pretty!
Wow, it's amazing to see how kids of different ages can use the same technique and make projects that are all beautiful and unique.
