Kindergarten Days--Week 10

This week was a review week of all the letters we have learned up to this point in our home kindergarten. You can check out the past "letters of the week" posts here.
Kimmy got out the Match-Up game this week.

This is a game from LeapFrog. It is a listening and matching game--kind of like a listening concentration game.

3 in a row!!

Pattern blocks are always a hit.

We painted all our recent letters with Do a Dot paint and posted them on our learning wall.

One of our favorite books of the week was Kitten's First Full Moon.

I found a real fun project to go along with this book.

Amazing!!!

Math time was spent learning the numbers 1-25.

Both kids and count to 25 now, so I thought it was time to learn to recognize the numbers.

The big kids have been learning about digestion for the last 3 weeks.

Here, Kimberly is discovering that she can still swallow when upside-down.

Our Counting Fish Mats had Kimmy practicing counting.

This is a very cute activity.

These books by Amy Krouse Rosenthal are very cute and fun to read over and over again.

Luke got a haircut from big sister Becky....

We learned that a frog CAN get out of our big spaghetti pot!

I made a lotto game to help us learn the numbers 1-25.

The kids enjoy it, and they loved the "rock" candy we used as markers.....as you can tell, they smell great.

For the week's grand finale, we attended the the county's healthy kid family fun day!!

We won a great door prize full of fun!

Kindergarten Days---Week 8

We had a full week of kindergarten this week. Mark and Grace had bible school this week in the morning so I was left here with Kim and Luke for 2 hours everyday. We managed to accomplish a lot.
The letter of the week was Tt.
Monday I got out the shaving cream for some letter writing practice.
Luke was NOT thrilled.
He spread the shaving cream on the plate and then needed to wash his hands. Then he wrote a Tt on the plate with his finger, and then wiped it away with his hand---he then needed to wash his hands---again---we repeated this a few more times and then he called it quits on this activity.

Kimberly, on the other hand, loved it!!

She wrote her letters and then washed her hands in the shaving cream.

She washed them some more....

and then proceeded to wash her arms----she ended up very clean and smelled wonderful!!

Tortoise starts with Tt.

We enjoyed The Hare and the Tortoise from Aesop's Fables illustrated by Charles Santore.
This is gorgeous book! One of my favorite Aesop Fable books.

Luke thought he was sooooo funny when he came out of the boys room wearing this tie.

"It starts with Tt!" he laughed!!

Every few days I review the lower and upper case letters we have learned using our Lauri Alphabet puzzles.

I also like Lauri's Tangrams Plus.

Kimberly finds the level 1 cards a little challenging.

Luke's tutle craft from DLTK crafts.

Tt is for telephone and telephone number.

This telephone is from DLTK crafts.
Both kids learned their phone number this week.

They also learned to dial the phone.

Amy had the great idea for them to practice using the cell phone to call the house phone.

They were so cute when the phone rang---they now think they are very big deals!!

Both Kim and Luke are getting very good at this activity.

I accidently left pipe cleaners on the table, for Luke this means his crayons turn into an airplane---which means it takes twice as long to get his coloring sheet finished than it does Kimberly.

Kimberly is not as easily distracted as Luke.

I have seen this activity around the internet.

Using color chips from the paint department of Wal-mart I made cards for the kids to put together in order from darker shade to lighter shade.

I left one card together as a control.

Both kids enjoyed this more than I expected. (which is always a good thing)

Thanks to Danny and a little baking soda and vinegar....

we had a fun science afternoon.

The Find It ABC puzzle

was enjoyed by all four younger kids.

Tt is for toothpick.

We decorateed our Tt's with toothpicks.

You can see a completed picture of these in the photo of our "learning wall" further down in this post.

Luke remembered when we made things with toothpicks and marshmallows.

So Kimberly made a triangle.

If you have never tried this with your kindergarteners or preschoolers, this activity keeps my kids busy for almost an hour everytime we do it!

As a grand finale for Tt week we made splatter paintings with toothbrushes.
