Let's Go Fly a Kite

These photos were from a week ago....today, and the next two days, snow is predicted.
The trees have no green yet...but maybe someday.
This was also a few days after Luke got out of the hospital.  Every once in a while he would lay down in the grass to rest.

A Kite- Anonymous
I often sit and wish that I
Could be a kite up in the sky,
And ride upon the breeze and go
Whichever way I chanced to blow.
Flight Fun
The shiny kite with arms outstretched,
Soared high above the trees,
It swerved and turned and circled 'round,
And danced upon the breeze.

If, when I put my arms outstretched,
A breeze would lift me high,
I'd flip and soar and circle 'round,
And race the birds that fly.

Tying the earth
And sky together.
God's glorious blue sky

Spring Morning  A.A.MILNE

Where am I going? I don't quite know.
Down to the stream where the king-cups grow-
Up on the hill where the pine-trees blow-
Anywhere, anywhere. I don't know.

Where am I going? The clouds sail by,
Little ones, baby ones, over the sky.
Where am I going? The shadows pass,
Little ones, baby ones, over the grass.

If you were a cloud, and sailed up there,
You'd sail on water as blue as air,
And you'd see me here in the fields and say:
"Doesn't the sky look green today?"

Where am I going? The high rooks call:
"It's awful fun to be born at all."
Where am I going? The ring-doves coo:
"We do have beautiful things to do."

If you were a bird, and lived on high,
You'd lean on the wind when the wind came by,
You'd say to the wind when it took you away:
"That's where I wanted to go today!"

Where am I going? I don't quite know.
What does it matter where people go?
Down to the wood where the blue-bells grow-
Anywhere, anywhere. I don't know.

Autumn T-Shirts

We made cute autumn t-shirts this past Saturday.
Last year, I bought these large foam stamps from Oriental Trading Co. for a very economical price.
I can't find this particular set, but I did find other sets suitable for t-shirts, especially these leaves.
I found these bright orange shirts at Michael's Crafts.
Put some cardboard inside the shirts.  I use cereal boxes for this.
Instead of dipping the large stamps into the fabric paint, Kim paints it thickly onto the stamp.
 Stamp away
 Kimmy's shirt.
Grace put a lot of detail into her stamps.
 Posing with the finished product!

A Passport to the World

It was a very important day for Kimberly and Luke.  They each got their own library card.
They were very excited this morning.  In fact they tried to wake me up at 6:30 so we would be ready to go at 9:00.  (We managed to get out the door by about 9:30.)

Kimberly had a little stage fright when it was time to write her name in that little white space on the card.  I just love it.  I hope she keeps it forever! A few of my big kids still have their first cards with their 6 year old signatures on them.
Luke made some wonderful choices on his own today.
Kimmy picked out three books....she has almost finished reading the Dick and Jane book.
We now have 8 people living in our home, all with a library card.  Each person can check out 30 books at a time, so in fact, we could have 240 library books to keep track of on any given day.

Kids in the Kitchen--Painted Bread Art

Amy found this activity for Luke and Kim.  Painted toast.
All you need is:
milk
food coloring
small jars or cups
bread
a toaster
 new, cheap paintbrushes
We put about one inch of milk into each jar and then added 4 or 5 drops of food coloring.
Mix up your milk and food coloring...I love the pastel color of the milk.
Start painting a design or picture on a piece of bread...being careful not to "soak" the bread in any one spot.
Luke chose to write his name.
Put in the toaster on a medium setting.
 Kimmy's masterpiece before toasting.
Kimmy's masterpiece after toasting....I love how the colors stand out on the toast.
The toast was still tasty slathered in butter!
Amy wanted to join the fun and since it was her idea, taadaa,
Amy's finished flower.
