Fingers are a-flying...

In the past few years Laura and I have gotten busy getting a little hand craft business going.
Knitting, crocheting and sewing...
Generally we do business through the J.C.Marie HandCrafts site on Facebook.
This link will take you over to the site.
If we aren't working on orders, we love to craft for charity.. There are many sites to be found that are in need of hand crafted items.
The Micky and Minnie Mouse hats are two of our most popular items.

Snowmen are fun this time of year.  With earflaps and braids it keeps you warm on our snowy winter days.
Infant and toddler flannel bibs with waterproof backing.
Super soft and squishy blankets for boys and girls
keeping cozy
double thickness potholders... all colors are available...These were for Christmas
super soft blankets for baby girls.... or big girls

Luke modeling the very popular beard hat
Kimberly modeling the twirly top earflap hat
This is where our business started...This can be sized newborn on up
I love the black and white colors or this kitchen set.  It includes 2 potholders, 2 dishcloths and on hanging dish towel.
Another popular item... the wolf hat
Gracie modeling the ear warmer
Assorted hats and mittens.
Toddler sized flannel bibs, now with waterproof backing
Another very popular design... the fox hat
These are the roses that I sell to help little ones say the Rosary. You can see a link to how we used these roses at this link.

A reusable swiffter pad... just throw it in the washer and dryer...It saves a ton of money

These little booties were made for favors at a baby shower.  Put a tag on them and chocolate coins and you are all set.
Thank you for taking a look at our recent creations.

Our of the Doldrums..Day 5....

Beating the doldrums...day 5
There is still about 8 inches of snow on the ground but it has begun to melt...but that also means the birds are still very hungry!
I was very happy to see a splash of red from one of my favorite birds...the male house finch.
I also made my first ever 100% cotton loofah.  It's so soft and squishy.  I'm very happy with how it turned out....If you would like to order some...just send me an email!!

Yarn Along...

From Ginny Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading and I love sharing my projects and current reads here. I would love for you to join me every Wednesday to share a single photo of what you are knitting (or crocheting) and reading too!
It's winter hat season....I made these rolled brimmed hats, making up my own pattern as I went along..I think they turned out cute!
I picked up this new book today at the library..The Immortal Nicholas--by Glenn Beck.
The librarian told me they just put it in the library system and she wants me to read it so she can give my recommendation to people...It's great to be a regular at the library!
Now head over to Ginny's blog and check out everyone's great work.

Yarn Along

From Ginny~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading. I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? I wanted to just back on the bandwagon and join in this week's Yarn Along over at Ginny's Small Things blog.  I have to admit I don't read much (knitting and crocheting take up most free time), but I am between paying jobs right now so a woman can always dream.
I have started, and found quite helpful, Father Jonathan Morris' book, The Way of Serenity-Finding Peace and Happiness in the Serenity Prayer.  I have been searching for a book that would be easy to read and comforting to the soul. This book is both! It needs to be easy to read because my concentration level right now is quite low.
And this leads us to my other very easy, light, read: A Patchwork Murder--by Jan Fields. Cozy mysteries are just about my speed these days.
Since I am between paying knitting jobs right now, I have dived head first into some charity knitting.  The charity I am knitting and crocheting for right now is The Preemie Project. There is a great need for these little items for the most precious little patients around the country.  The Preemie Project website offers patterns and sizing...which is very, very helpful.
It's the middle of the "4th of July" hat and bootie drive.  We want these babies all decked out for the summer holidays.

Thick and Quick Toboggan Hat

I made my first crocheted ear flap hat last night.
I used Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick yarn.  I just love this extra chunky yarn.
Kimbery made the braids herself (I helped attach them to the hat.)
Daddy is the professional pom pom maker and once again he didn't disappoint us.
I found the pattern on the Lion Brand wedsite.  You so have go be a member to access this pattern, but it is free to sign up and download tons of patterns specific to the Lion Brand yarn.
I now have 5 orders for this hat.  We may end up with one of every Wool-Ease color.
You can find this and other toboggan hats at the Lion Brand website.

Yarn Along

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading, and the evidence of this often shows up in my photographs.  I love seeing what other people are knitting and reading as well. So, what are you knitting or crocheting right now? What are you reading? Take a photo and share it either on your blog or on Flickr. Leave a link below to share your photo with the rest of us! ~
Head over to Ginny's blog to join the fun.
I've made a lot of progress on the ripple crochet afghan I am working on.  I should have it done shortly.  After that, I have some wonderful new yarn (to me) for some baby blankets that need to be made.
We finished up last week's read aloud, Storm Makers, and have moved on to Nim's Island.  We are all enjoying this book also.  The kids were also thrilled to learn that there is a movie made of this book which we will watch when we are done reading.
I am hoping to find a book for my own personal enjoyment...I'm ready for a good book.
If anyone cares to share a fun book of fiction for summer reading, I would appreciate it.
