I Wish That I Had Duck Feet--Down on the Farm

Our trip "down on the farm" has come to an end--we could probably go on forever--but the library wants its 30 or so farm books back and it is time to move on...

I wanted to share just a couple more fun things we did this week. The kids really enjoyed these Melissa and Doug Baby Farm Animal Stamps.

Everyone got into the fun.
Kimberly was a very enthusiastic two handed stamper.

We also had great fun with these two books: I Wish that I had Duck Feet and The Golden Egg Book.
These books were great read together, because after I Wish that I had Duck Feet we made the transition to Easter by reading The Golden Egg Book. This very sweet Margaret Wise Brown book is about a bunny and an egg that later hatches into a duckling.

What else could we do after reading I Wish that I had Duck Feet but make out own "duck feet".

I made my own pattern and cut the feet out of orange foam. The kids simply slipped them over their feet and then waddled and quacked away.

I hope everyone has enjoyed this time "down on the farm" .

We will be concentrating on Easter for the next week, and then we will need to get started on another theme---feel free to comment and send some fun suggestions my way.

Unplugged Project-Books-A whole lot of feathers...

This weeks Unplugged Project is BOOKS, and is graciously being hosted by Chronicle of an Infant Bibliophile.

If you have visited my blog before, you know that we enjoy books, many, many books and keeping with our "farm" theme , we are again, "down on the farm."

Today we honor the poultry among us. We enjoyed roosters,
a "loose goose",

and a mystery chick.

After reading our books, I found these cute printables from Homeschool share. I use the search feature often at this site to find activities pertaining to a certain book or subject. We usually are NOT making a lapbook, but I print out the activities to use by themselves.

The printable above is "the story of an egg."
I simply printed this out and then discussed the proper sequencing of events and then let the kids practice their new skill.

I also found a cute printable song book at this site. This has an animal sound song written to the tune of The Wheels on the Bus. It was a big hit.
We also made these extremely cute chickens, from this kit.
Our house is becoming a make-believe farm with all the farm crafts we have been making lately. Make sure to check out our past "down on the farm" crafts.

Tot-School: Down on the Farm

Luke is now 46 months old

Kimberly is now 34 months old
Spring has arrived in upstate New York, so Tot-School has taken a decidingly outdoorsy turn.

We have spent some lovely days at the creek out back, exploring rocks and mud---a lot of MUD!!

Nothing is more fun for a 3 year old than MUD. We have also been enjoying a "farm" theme this week at Tot-School. We made these great "muddy pigs" that I posted about here.

Daddy also took us to the zoo this week. We always take a picture on the tiger.

Of course, since it is "farm week" we paid special attention to the barn and farm animals at the zoo.

We saw the giant rooster,

and a fun little piggy.
This fun farm mobile is now hanging with our other farm crafts.
I found the printables for this at DLTK crafts.

We also made this cute little sheep magnets for the refrigerator. Instead of using paper, I cut out the pieces using foam sheets. We added wiggle eyes, pom pom noses, and cotton ball wool.

These magnets have been added to the refrigerator with our piggy magnets.

Our chick craft was a lot of fun.

We used yellow ovals, cut out of cardstock,

big wiggle eyes,

yellow paint,

white cardstock,

brass fasteners. The first step is to paint little hands yellow and then stamp them onto white cardstock.

This is a good time to have a teenage assistant!

This is just cute!

We then made orange paint by mixing yellow and red.

Here Luke is painting his chick's feet.

The kids both love to paint.

After the handprints were dry, I cut them out to resemble chick's wings, and then used brass fasteners to attach them to the chick. We then glued on big wiggle eyes.

The beaks are orange squares of paper folded into a triangle. These turned out very cute.

Old MacDonald Had a Farm-activities

Today we had fun reenacting Old MacDonald Had a Farm with our farm animals.
I found these great printables at Kidsparkz. We made this a game by turning the cards over and as we sang "Old MacDonald" one of the kids would pick a card and then that is the animal sound we would sing.

We then put the card down on the "farm" and we found the matching toy animals and put these on the correct picture.

The kids all enjoyed this song-game. They wanted to play it over and over.

These cards also include baby animals to match to their mothers.
We laughed a lot as we read Cock A Doodle Moo!

Of course, we needed a craft to continue on our farm theme, so today we made paper plate cows.

We usually do all our crafting from "scratch", but this time, with so many farm crafts I want to make, I purchased this kit which contains everything we need to make three different animals--- and these were already cut out!!

I needed to help Kimmy with hers, she was a little under the weather today!

But, as Gracie made her cow, Kimmy pepped up and read Grace the directions.

I love how Mark made his cow's eyes.

Our "farm" wall is beginning to fill up!
