Our Blessed Mother

Our Blessed Mother is visiting our house tonight, on her way around to many parishoners of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.

It will be a blessing to pray the Rosary with her as we beg for her intersession in our family.

Mary, Queen of Heaven and Earth

We made a beautiful crown to help us celebrate the Queenship of Our Blessed Mother.
And thanks to Charlotte, we were able to color these beautiful pictures.

Happy Birthday Blessed Mother Mary

Our table centerpiece for Mary's birthday.
We made the lapbook a few years ago.
You can check out the post about our lapbook here.
We added a lovely candle to our display this year. I got the idea from Family at the Foot of the Cross.
Very quick and simple to make, but it will burn my our Lady of Grace shrine throughout the year.

A Grotto For Our Lady of Lourdes

I found this real cute idea for The Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes over at Catholic Cuisine.
A rice krispie treat grotto. The complete directions are at Catholic Cuisine, but we didn't follow the directions exactly.
It came it so cut- and very
yummy!! I believe this will be a new yearly tradition around here!

Happy Birthday, Blessed Mother

Coloring and cake---the perfect celebration....
Gracie even dressed for the occasion.
Mark took care of the cake!!
Kimmy was very careful to color in the lines.
A lot of statues of Mary looked on as the work was done---even St. Francis looked on from the stained glass picture on the window.

Lovely Lady Dressed in Blue

Lovely lady dressed in blue, teach me how to pray.
God was once your little boy, tell me what to say.
Did you lift Him up sometimes gently on your knee?
Did you sing to Him the way that my mother does to me?
Did you hold His hand at night?
Did you ever tryTelling stories of the world?
Oh, and did He cry?
Do you really think He cares if I tell Him things,
Little things that happen
and do the angel's wings
Make a noise?

Can He hear me if I speak low?
Can He understand me now, you know?
Lovely lady, tell me, for you know.
Lovely Lady dressed in blue
teach me how to pray.
God was just your little boy
and you know the way.

The 2009 May Crowning

Today we were the guests of the first grade religious education class as they crowned Mary as Queen of Heaven.
Gracie presented her flower to Our Blessed Mother.
Can you tell who knew all the words to the hymn Immaculate Mary?
"Immaculate Mary
Your praises we sing
On earth we your children
Invoke your sweet name
Ave, Ave, Ave Maria
Ave, Ave Maria"

The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary

Today we honor Our Blessed Mother on her Feast of the Rosary. This past weekend Mark and Grace made these beautiful shrines for Mary at their children's group, Friends of Jesus and Mary.
We have been very neglectful in our rosary making recently, but today we made a few to remind Mary how much we love her and to ask her to watch over us.
The little kids are experts at rosary making now, especially since I found these spacers at Lewis & Company. This is my favorite site from which to buy rosary parts. Thanks to Jennifer, who shared this information over at the 4Real site, we made this lovely rose out of beautiful autumn maple leaves. We didn't have any wire to "finish off" the rose, so we used scotch tape--hence, the child's hand holding the rose, hiding the tape.
Last year we made a lapbook for Mary--you can revisit it here.
I hope Our Blessed Mother is happy with our efforts to honor her today.

Our Blessed Mother's Birthday

Today we celebrate our Blessed Mother's birthday.
We made birthday cards and Mark and Grace made rosaries. I am very proud of them because it is not easy for little hands to string those beads.

Becky helped the kids bake a birthday cake for Mary. It looks lovely on our table.
We have discussed everything that we can give to Mary, like our sacrifices, our hearts, and especially our prayers.

Our Blessed Mother Lapbook Update

At the beginning of May we began our Blessed Mother lapbook. We have been coming up with our own ideas, and as you can see, compared to our first post, here, we have been progressing very nicely. Our cover remains the same. I don't know if we will add words to the cover or not.
On the first fold we have our prayer for the unborn. This was inspired by reading Lovely Lady Dressed in Blue. We discovered this book through Catholic Mosiac by Cay Gibson. I thought the abortion topic in the book might be too much for my 5 and 7 year olds to deal with, but when we finished the book they were so eager to say the rosary for the unborn, I knew that we had certainly NOT made a mistake. We have now adopted an unborn baby in danger of abortion and will continue praying for this baby for the next 9 months.
Our parish church is Our Lady of Good Counsel, so we have added a picture of our church, and underneath that we have put the image of Our Lady of Good Counsel.

I decided to consentrate on four images of Our Lady. Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Lourdes and Our Lady of Grace. ( Our Lady of Grace is in honor of our 5 year old Gracie)
We have incorporated geography into our lapbook by discussing Juan Diego and that he was from Mexico. We also have some questions that need to be divided in groups. If we do what each card says we need to decide if we are saying yes to God or no to God.

Our flip book contains the words to the song "Lady in Blue" We have decorated each page with pictures and stickers and we have also learned to sing the song very well (if I do say so myself).Hopefully, we will keep filling our book up and very soon we will be able to show the final product. Even if we were to stop here, I am very pleased with what the children have learned and the amount of devotion they have developed for Our Blessed Mother.

Our Blessed Mother Lapbook

Being the month of May and the month of Our Blessed Mother, we have begun a lapbook dedicated to Mary. We have only recently discovered lapbooking and the kids and I are certainly enjoying it. Here, Mark is coloring a section of the lapbook dedicated to the unborn. We have spiritually adopted a baby in danger of abortion. We will pray for these babies for nine months.

I made a pocket to hold holy cards dedicated to Our Lady of Grace, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Fatima, and Our Lady of Lourdes. I think these are what we will concentrate on right now. I am sure we will add to them as time goes on.We also attend Our Lady of Good Counsel church. I found a picture of the church and when you turn that picture you see the image of Our Lady of Good Counsel.

The cover is very beautiful with Our Blessed Mother and stickers. In the botton corner Mark made a card of Our Lady of Guadalupe on his own and wanted it on the cover. I am very proud of him. We have many other fun ideas for this lapbook, and will be giving occasional updates.
