Valentine's Day Countdown Chain

 We have again made this great Valentine's Day heart countdown chain from Catholic Icing.

Each heart has a Bible verse concerning love printed on it....just perfect for daily handwriting practice.

Heart Art

I found this fun and easy idea over at playdrmom.

I was looking for something a little different than our usual Valentine's Day heart actitivies and this were a perfect choice.

All you need are:

heart stickers

red, pink and pinker acrylic paint

foam paintbrush

8x10 canvas (I found canvas boards at Walmart...these worked perfectly)

Luke was the most eager to get started on this art project.

First he arranged the stickers onto the canvas, making sure they are pressed on really well.
I wanted him to dab the paint onto the canvas so he wouldn't "move" the stickers. But he preferred using a regular brush stroke. The stickers remained firmly in place.
He changed colors, mixed colors and painted over colors. If fact, he wanted to keep painting, but the paint was getting so thick, I was afraid it would never dry, so I had to call it done.
We then had to be patient and wait for the paint to completely dry.
Once Luke finished, the girls were ready to get started.
Grace was very careful, placing her stickers just so.


I love Gracie's concentration!

Kimmy was mostly pink, of course.

It was quite easy to remove the stickers.

I just love the final results!

A Countdown until St. Valentine's Day

I want to thank Lacy, over at Catholic Icing, for providing this fun activity for St. Valentine's Day. A heart St. Valentine's Day paperchain countdown.

It is just the perfect thing to use to get excited about St. Valentine's Day. The chain has beautiful Bible verses concerning love....I think I will use each days chain as handwriting practice for my children. It will be a nice break from the normal schoolwork.

Cinnamon bun Valentines

I saw this idea somewhere--but forgive my "older" mind--I have no idea where I saw it or I would include the link here.This was a very quick and easy Valentine treat.

I had purchased original Pillsbury cinnamon buns in a can---but didn't realize that they didn't "unroll". So, I happened to have a can of Pillsbury Grands Cinnamon buns---and luckily these did unroll. Simply unroll the bun and then re-roll from both ends, into a heart shape.

I mixed the glaze topping with a little pink food coloring, and then used my handy-dandy-ziploc bag turned into decorating bag technique,
On the round buns, I used the frosting to make hearts.

These were for the kids.

They liked them.

This is how the Grand cinnamon buns looked after they were rolled into a heart and baked!

The Giant Heart Shaped Chocolate Chip Cookie

I cheated a little bit today when I used Betty Crocker cookie mix to make this giant heart cookie. 2 cookie pouches fit in our heart pan perfectly.

I needed to think of a dessert for Grandma's house tomorrow, and I think this will be very popular.Gracie is patiently writing

"I Heart U" on the cookie with M&M's, while it appears from this picture, Luke is chewing "something". Ohhhhhhh! The house smells good right now. :-)

Our Valentines and Treats are Ready

We have been busy making our Valentines today for tomorrow's homeschool party. Kimberly helped make these very cute butterflies. We finished them with a lollipop. You can find the printable version of these here.
I searched the internet and found these other Valentines ready for printing. I especially like the real sweet cards that Alice Cantrell provided for us at A Number of Things.
