The Shrine of the North American Martyrs--August 9. 2015

We made a trip to Auriesville this past August.  It was a wonderful time.
We took all the kids that could fit in our van.

We try to get here at least once a summer.
Luke knows with way to go....
On the walk down the ravine you read the story of these amazing men who loved Our Lord and the Mohawk Indians they were willing to give their lives for them.

I love that Luke's scapular is showing.

The first chapel is shown below.

This is the "hill of torture"  At the bottom of this valley is the Mohawk River.

Road Trip!!

This morning I woke up after having a wonderful dream about being at camp.

My parents had a camp which we spent the summers for my first 40 years....you know....my childhood.

Well, the dream was wonderful and I awoke and was feeling a little blue, so hubby said, "Let's get in the car and head up north."

I hesitated, but he got his way...and off we went.

The old camp is still standing, just like we left it. And look at that snow. We have only had snow on the ground for a handfull of days this winter, but travel an hour and a half north, and a little snow was still on the ground.

Many, many wonderful memories.
The dam was opened wide in Old Forge.

It was about 40 degrees. Perfect weather for climbing trees.

Someone on McCauley Mountain was cheering for the Giants yesterday.

The Moose River in Thendara.

The sky was crystal clear today!

On the way home we had to stop where this Mom and Dad met...Camp Nazareth.
Grace and Kimberly ringing the camp bell.

This is where it all started.

Thanks for the great day, Pat. I wake up from a good dream and you turn it into a wonderful, memory filled day!!!

Heading to "The River"--Makes My Monday

We headed 2 hours due north Sunday to attend my nephew's graduation party from highschool.
That fun will get its own post, but on the way home we took a 15 minute drive for a great little side trip.
We headed over the St. Lawerence River on the 1000 Island Bridge.
The kids were absolutely thrilled for this unexpected fun.
At the top of the bridge, overlooking a few of the 1000 Islands and the St. Lawerence River.
Can you say GORGEOUS!!

Gracie just loved this bench :-)

If you live in our part of the country there is only one "river". You head up to "the river" in the summer. My Miami nieces are visiting for a few weeks and they were puzzled when we would refer to "the river". As Amanda stated, "There are a lot of rivers, Aunt Joann." But we corrected her, "There is only one "river" in our neck of the woods!"
And it is beautiful!!
