Macro Monday---And A Poem

In honor of the praying mantis we caught last weekend....
That praying mantis over there
Is really not engaged in prayer.
That praying mantis that you see
Is really preying (with an e).
It preys upon the garter snake.
It preys upon the bumblebee.
It preys upon the cabbage worm,
The wasp, the fly, the moth, the flea.
(And sometimes, if its need is great,
It even preys upon its mate.)
With prey and preying both so endless,
It tends to end up rather friendless
And seldom in commended much
Except by gardeners and such.

Christmas Chain Poem

Gracie stapled together our annual Christmas countdown chain today. It is all ready to have a link torn off everyday until Christmas arrives.
This year I discoverd a wonderful poem over at Ramblings of a Crazy Woman to accompany our chain. We topped our chain with a star and I have written the poem on the chalkboard so that Mark and Grace can memorize it during this Advent season.

Unplugged Project-Words-Acrostic Poetry

This weeks Unplugged Project is: Words. I decided to have the kids write acrostic poems for the topic of Words. It was a challenge for Mark and Grace because we hadn't talked about this type of poem before, but after a while they got the hang of it.
As they were writing their poems, I came to realize that the kids do not lack self-esteem.
We may have this weeks theme be "humility".
We did an Easter Acrostic together. I was very pleased with the words they came up with. Kimberly then decorated it with our Easter egg stickers.
Check out everyone's great Unplugged Project:Words--there are great ideas out there!
Next weeks theme is: TRANSPORTATION

Poetry Friday

"The year's at the spring

And day's at the morn;

Morning's at seven;

The hillside's dew-pearled;

The lark's on the wing;

The snail's on the thorn;

God's in His heaven -

All's right with the world!"

Happy Thanksgiving!

What Matters If The Cold Wind's Blast

What matters if the cold wind's blast,
What matters though 'tis snowing,

Thanksgiving Day has come at last;
To grandmamma's were going.
Wrapped in furs as warm as toast,
O'er the hills we're fleeting;
To welcome friends, a merry host
And grandma's smile of greeting.

The sleigh bells jingle merrily,
And though the flakes are flying,
At last beyond the hills we see
A little mansion lying.
I'm sure we'll find sweet cakes and fruit
And pumpkin pies so yellow;
For grandma knows just how to suit
Each hungry little fellow.

Poetry Friday

The North Wind Doth Blow
The North wind doth blow and we shall have snow,
And what will poor robin do then, poor thing?
He'll sit in a barn and keep himself warm
and hide his head under his wing, poor thing.
