Beat the Doldrums....Day 9...Let's Go Fly a Kite

It looks like a picture perfect kite flying day....and it was....for a short time....because what you can't tell by the photos is that the wind chill was 25 degrees at kite flying time.
Gracie "trick" kite was very tricky to fly.
It didn't take long to become numb to the cold
Luke was great at flying his airplane kite....notice the snowbanks....there was nothing melting today.
This is my go to camera angle for kite flying.
Mark was  very "cool" and only lasted for about 10 minutes outside.

 Three kites in the air.
Luke used this technique a few times.
I was just about frozen when Dad got home from work and helped detangle some troubles.
Dad giving advice.....You can notice I'm getting farther away in the photos...I was sneaking over the hill to get warm.

Luke makes me smile!!!

Let's Go Fly a Kite

These photos were from a week ago....today, and the next two days, snow is predicted.
The trees have no green yet...but maybe someday.
This was also a few days after Luke got out of the hospital.  Every once in a while he would lay down in the grass to rest.

A Kite- Anonymous
I often sit and wish that I
Could be a kite up in the sky,
And ride upon the breeze and go
Whichever way I chanced to blow.
Flight Fun
The shiny kite with arms outstretched,
Soared high above the trees,
It swerved and turned and circled 'round,
And danced upon the breeze.

If, when I put my arms outstretched,
A breeze would lift me high,
I'd flip and soar and circle 'round,
And race the birds that fly.

In windy weather
Tying the earth
And sky together.
God's glorious blue sky

Spring Morning  A.A.MILNE

Where am I going? I don't quite know.
Down to the stream where the king-cups grow-
Up on the hill where the pine-trees blow-
Anywhere, anywhere. I don't know.

Where am I going? The clouds sail by,
Little ones, baby ones, over the sky.
Where am I going? The shadows pass,
Little ones, baby ones, over the grass.

If you were a cloud, and sailed up there,
You'd sail on water as blue as air,
And you'd see me here in the fields and say:
"Doesn't the sky look green today?"

Where am I going? The high rooks call:
"It's awful fun to be born at all."
Where am I going? The ring-doves coo:
"We do have beautiful things to do."

If you were a bird, and lived on high,
You'd lean on the wind when the wind came by,
You'd say to the wind when it took you away:
"That's where I wanted to go today!"

Where am I going? I don't quite know.
What does it matter where people go?
Down to the wood where the blue-bells grow-
Anywhere, anywhere. I don't know.

Kite Flying

Today was a day that the kids have been waiting for- kite flying day. Dad was home from work and the Easter bunny had brought kites. It didn't matter that we woke up to snow flurries and temperatures in the 30's, dad had promised and that was it. It did warm up to 37 degrees this afternoon, so after assembling the kites at the dining room table, the kids and their dad were off to 'go fly a kite'. They had a great time in spite of winter coats, hats and mittens. Kite assembly at the table.
They flew their kites at the fireman' field. There are too many trees around our house.

Dad did a good job with his kite. Grace got her kite off the ground-a little.
