Seamus' Story: In Honor of Patricia Polacco

The following is a story Mark narrated to me, inspired by Patricia Polacco's stories about true events in her life--even sad events.

The previous post is Gracie's story with an explaination of this wonderful "Author Fiesta" idea.

Seamus

When my dog Seamus died, I cried until I couldn’t cry anymore.

It happened last year.

I loved him even though he bit my arm. Even though he gave me a scar on my arm that will probably last my whole life.

I know Seamus loved me because he liked to play with me, and I liked to play with him. We liked to throw his bone and squeaky toy outside and he would hide with it.

I never knew it would be so much fun to have a black dog with a white paws and white between his eyes.

I miss him. I hope the new dog is just like him.

Author's Note: We have a lot of fun now, but I still miss Seamus. Whenever I look at my scar, I think of him.

Sad News

We have discovered that Seamus was hit and killed by a car. He went missing on Saturday night, and someone came to house today because they found him in the ditch about a half mile from our house.

What Does a Two Year Old Think?

We will never know!

Like, why would a two year old go over to the baby gate, call the dog, and tell the dog to lick his head?

We don't know why he does it, but we do know that the dog listens to him.LOL

Seamus-4 Months Old!

Seamus is 4 months old now. You can see how much bigger he has gotten.The pictures below are from yesterday and the picture to the right was taken when we got him. Yesterday he had to go to the vet for some shots- he is not a good traveler. I drove and Becky had to hold him in the back seat. Luckily the vet is 200 yards from the driveway. We can't walk though because he is a herding dog, and he definitely wants to herd the cars.

He has been a great addition to the household. He loves everyone and everyone loves him. We also think that he is going to be a world class frisbee player.

Another Family Fun Day

Everyone was very busy having fun today. (It will be a shock to everyone when some serious school-work begins again next week.) I took the children out for a walk to look for signs of spring. These will be included in Friday's Early Spring Field Day.

In the morning both big boys and little boys enjoyed playing their videogames. We do limit their playing time greatly. They usually can only play on weekends or on vacations, so today was a nice treat, especially for Mark.

After our nature walk this morning we enjoyed some bubble blowing. The temperatures are still in the 30's but the kids are getting very hardy.

After a hard day of playing there is nothing better than to relax with your big brother. This is truly 'brotherly love'.

Update on Seamus

We have gotten some requests for an update on Seamus.("Hi"-Aunt Theresa) He is getting bigger and just loves all the kids and attention he gets around here. Becky is the official owner (she pays the bills). He spends some of his time in his crate, but he prefers to be loose and chasing children. He also has made the spot under the kitchen table his own and sometimes falls asleep with his head on a rung of a chair.(very cute) We still haven't had much success at housebreaking, but we have read that until the puppy is at least 16 to 20 weeks old it is a pretty hard thing to do. So hopefully, time will take care of this problem.

Here is our newest family member.

Rebecca got this cute Border Collie this past Saturday. He is about two months old and keeping us busy (or busier than usual). He seems to be adjusting to our family quite easily.

The kids love him already, and he is very happy with all the attention he is getting.

Now we just need anyone's advice on housebreaking.
